Well, we felt instead of making some pat / snarky / clever Thanksgiving post instead we would post some really heavy reading…why not…POST CINEMATIC AFFECT is a book about the ‘Post-Cinematic Era’. I have linked to a short book review by Paul Bowman below. He raises some interesting questions. Films that mimic / include / integrate new forms of visual story telling taken from new mediums (like video games) are defined by him as ‘Post Cinematic’. There are a slew of ‘fake user-generated’ action / horror movies (and King Kelly of course) that fall into this category of ‘Post-Cinematic’. If nothing else it seems like an interesting discussion about the end of cinematic hegemony. The book has been ordered. Enter a brave new Post Cinematic world…we stand at attention.
