Ok so this article (which i missed) REALLY pissed some people off. It pissed off a Film Comment editor so much that he wrote a whole article on it basically (Kent Jones I think). Parts of what Kois is saying is true….parts of what he’s saying suggest that he’s a moron. Sure we watch some things because we feel we should…and maybe the weight of the canon makes us lie to ourselves about how we feel about it. But any great film / book / painting etc requires work from the person that consumes it. If you don’t struggle with a work (and yes sometimes that means boredom) whats the use? Ok….its your cultural Vegetables EAT U!….well yeah…eat up. Thoughts ST asks?
